Sidekicks Conversations
Not just about tobacco
The Sidekicks training and activities are very similar to the Motivational Interviewing model which is an evidence-based strategy designed to engage people in conversation toward behavior change.
Skills learned with Sidekicks are transferrable to other risky situations young people might find themselves in.
Sidekicks peer support model is rooted in Motivational Interviewing skills which have high efficacy in promoting behavior change.
Sidekicks conversations are based in a respectful and curious approach of communicating with others.
PS-025
Why Sidekicks?
The Sidekicks program has a goal of working with young people and adult advisors in Maine to help teens find the words to talk to their peers about tobacco use and vaping.
Once trained as a Sidekick, youth have the skills to hold respectful conversations with their peers about tobacco use, as well as other risky behaviors.
The Sidekicks program gives youth both the skills and confidence to support their peers, as well as a network of Adult Advisors as a resource for questions and support.
